3rd Place for Ffion in World Junior Asian Championships

After Crowning European Glory in Scotland over Whitsun, Golfer Ffion Tynan travelled to Indonesia to take part in the World Asian Championships which were held in Jakarta.

The 10 years old managed to finish a creditable 3rd place and became the first non-Asian player to finish in the top five in any of the categories.

144 of the World’s Top Golfers took part in 4 age Categories boys and Girls and this was a terrific experience for the Cwmlai Student who took the 17 hour flight in her stride to be part of a small team from the UK.

The 5300yd course was set up just like a professional event with difficult pin positions and super-fast greens, and playing in 40+ degree heat plus plagued by an allergy Ffion competed well with some of the top Asian Golfers on show,

Things did not start well for Ffion in the First round, when she carded a  97 and  she had a mountain to climb as Unyamanee Wongaroon from Thailand scored an impressive 78.

Day 2 was much better from Ffion as she managed to move up the leader board and got into contention with a top three spot with a solid 90.

Going into the final round she was one shot  off 3rd spot and 10 shots behind 2nd place but another solid start Ffion start to make inroads into those shots and with 2 holes remaining had managed to grab 2nd<

Ffion says “ I had a wonderful experience in Jakarta, it was so hot but everyone was so friendly and helpful. I would love to go back there sometime soon.”

Ffion has three weeks preparation ahead of a month long trip to America where she will be taking part in 4 tournaments including the Callaway World Championships in San Diego.
